Sound of Classical Poll - Spotlight #4

22.05.18

In the lead up to The Classic BRIT Awards 2018 on 13th June, we are keen to shine a spotlight on our ‘Sound of Classical’ entrants.

This Award competition is open to young artists training and/or trained in Classical music (aged 13-30 years). The winner will be decided by a panel of Industry professionals and announced on Show night.

Here are some of the entrants:

Christina Johnson - Classical Soprano

30

Despite her young age Christina, nicknamed “The Nightingale” among many, has addressed audiences all over Europe, Asia and South America. She was accepted with

a scholarship when she was just 18 to The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

In 2012 she made her operatic debut at The State Opera, Prague as The Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Adele in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus.

Julian Bliss - Clarinet

29

Born in the UK, Julian started playing the clarinet age 4, going on to study in the U.S. at the University of Indiana and in Germany under Sabine Meyer.   The breadth and depth of his artistry are reflected in the diversity and distinction of his work.

In recital and chamber music he has played at most of the world’s leading festivals and venues including Gstaad, Mecklenburg Vorpommern, Verbier, Wigmore Hall (London) and Lincoln Center (New York).

Peter Moore - Trombonist

22

In 2008, at the age of 12, Peter Moore became the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician Competition. At the age of 18 he was appointed co-principal trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra and in 2015 joined the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist scheme.
